Lime Needed to Adjust Required Alkalinity

Transcribed Text from Video

Today’s example reads;

Calculate the number of bags of lime needed to adjust alkalinity.

Today’s problem reads:

Determine the number of bags of lime needed to adjust alkalinity in the biological wastewater treatment process system. Assume 25 mg nitrogen oxidized in a process system. Flow 2.22 mgd, 125 mg alkalinity in the process system. 75 mg per liter of calcium carbonate. 50-pound bags of lime were used to adjust alkalinity.

Calculate the number of bags of lime needed to adjust alkalinity.

Number Bags Lime Needed for Required Alkalinity

We’re going to calculate the number of bags of lime needed to adjust alkalinity. All right. We’re going to put this in an Excel spreadsheet, but we’re going to have to use the result from a separate standalone video where I calculated pounds of lime needed.

I will put the number in here, and then I’m going to link you to the solution on a separate standalone video. If you go to a blank Excel spreadsheet, in C1 type 50-pound bags of lime. Your answer’s going to be the number of bags. Put your cursor in A1. You can set that as whole numbers with eight decimals, you can make it bold and centered. In the address bar you can type in this formula: =(1788.83594)/(50) press enter.

Your answer is 35.77671880 50-pound bags of lime.

You can probably just round up to 36 if you choose, if it was an actual process.

I want to show you, the 1788 it actually comes from a separate standalone video down here. As you can see this is the title and this is the link. This is where I had the result, 1788.

That actually used a separate standalone video with the 2379 and the 23 … You can go to the video and see the description. The 2379 is actually in this video where we had the pounds of needed alkalinity it’s calcium carbonate.

That actually used a standalone video 128.5. The 128.5 is actually solved here, which actually feeds in from a result of 178.5. You can actually see the 178.5 is calculated here.

We got five separate videos to feed into it one, you can actually in this video, and this is the only video you’ll see this, this solution is in one formula which is right here. You see the 35.77671880 is the answer with the one formula.

You come up here to the top and you see that we got 35.77671880 with the five small videos.

That’s the answer. Essentially, 36 bags.

Required Alkalinity

Today’s example reads;

Calculate required alkalinity.

Today’s problem reads:

Determine required alkalinity in the wastewater treatment process of 25 mg of nitrogen oxidized in a process system.

Calculate required alkalinity.

This is a simple problem where we take the milligrams of nitrogen oxidized and multiply it by the conversion factor to calcium carbonate in milligrams per liter. We have to know the standard conversion factor in order to solve it, which is 7.14. Let’s see how we put this in an Excel spreadsheet.

You go to a blank spreadsheet. In C1 you put calcium carbonate. Recognize our answer’s going to be in milligrams per liter. You can put your cursor in A1, you can set it as whole numbers with two decimal equivalents and you can make it bold and centered. In the address bar you can type in this formula: =(7.14)X(25) and then press enter. 178.15 will be in A1, which is your answer.

That’s your answer:  178.15
